Performance Code

Comedy Of Errors 2007

Choosing the right training is the most important decision you will make as you embark upon a career in the performing arts, as your training will have a lasting influence on you. At GSA, where all tutors are practitioners, these principles are integral to their process and the following code is agreed to maintain the highest possible standards within our school. The code applies to all courses.

The Code

  1. We recognise the need to make our classes accessible, understandable and tangible.
  2. The teaching must enlighten and encourage discovery.
  3. Tutors are artists, professionals and lovers of the art of teaching.  We must be exemplars of this.
  4. We agree to work efficiently and with respect.
  5. Tutors will endeavour to be truthful but not abusive or humiliate students.
  6. Tutors will expect you to work at your highest level of concentration and ability and will not compromise with less.
  7. We employ tutors who understand the professional world and whose intent will be to assist you in attaining your ambition to enter this profession.
  8. Tutors will stretch the possibilities you present them with and will seek to emancipate you from your habits and preferred ways of operating.
  9. Our job is to help you realise the potential we saw in you at audition or interview and to realise the potential you see in yourself, even if at times that may seem impossible.
  10. Tutors will ask that you understand the world in which you hope to work and will expect you to ask questions about your commitment to becoming an actor as well as knowing about the history of your society and the world of art.
  11. We will create an environment that will enrich your experience of these processes.
  12. We aim to educate you “fully” in broad terms as well as in specific techniques.
  13. We invest in your future and your success is very important to us.  We are totally committed to doing everything we can to make your professional life successful.
  14. Finally, we aim to make your time at GSA enjoyable and life-enhancing, ensuring that fulfilment is no meagre thing, but that your training is a celebration in itself.
